Instruction To Accommodate Learning Style

چکیده
This paper describes Arthur, a World Wide Web-based instruction system that provides adaptive instruction to accommodate learning style in order to achieve a significant difference when technology is applied to instruction. The design of Arthur is discussed, including considerations related to the learning experience, adapting instruction, and learner models using case-based reasoning. System implementation is then described, including the client side, the server side, and the Intelligent FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) information retrieval system. (Contains 18 references.) Testing the ATI hypothesis: Should multimedia instruction accommodate verbalizer-visualizer cognitive style?
College students (Experiment 1) and non-college adults (Experiment 2) studied a computer-based 31-frame lesson on electronics that offered help-screens containing text (text group) or illustrations (pictorial group), and then took a learning test. Participants also took a battery of 14 cognitive measures related to the verbalizer-visualizer dimension including tests of cognitive style, learning...
متن کاملWhich Learning Style Do You Prefer to Improve EFL Learning?
The term "learning styles" refers to the concept that individuals differ in regard to what mode of instruction or study is most effective for them. Proponents of learningstyle assessment contend that optimal instruction requires diagnosing individuals' learning style and tailoring instruction accordingly (pashler, McDaniel, Rohrer, and Bjork, 2009). There are several methods or theories that d...
متن کاملAdaptive Instruction in Adaptive Educational Hypermedia Systems
In this paper we focus on adaptive instruction and especially on the educational perspective that should underlie the development of web-based Adaptive Educational Hypermedia (AEH) systems used for Internet-based distance education. A design rational and guidelines are proposed for adaptive instruction in the context of AEH systems, which unify several processes that formulate system’s adaptati...
متن کاملPerceptual Learning Style Preferences and Computer-Assisted Writing Achievement within the Activity Theory Framework
Learning styles are considered among the significant factors that aid instructors in deciding how well their students learn a second or foreign language (Oxford, 2003). Although this issue has been accepted broadly in educational psychology, further research is required to examine the relationship between learning styles and language learning skills. Thus, the present study was carried out to in...
متن کاملPosition Statement on Ability Grouping and Tracking
The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) supports the instruction of students within heterogeneous classrooms that recognize and accommodate individual student differences in learning style, ability, and interests. NASP opposes the use of tracking, a permanent approach where students are assessed and placed into specific classrooms with peers of similar ability, because of its de...
